Attention and Focus Test

How sustained attention, restlessness and organisation shape an ordinary day — and whether any of it is costing you.

100 statements · about 10 minutes · full report with a 7-day trial

What it measures

5 dimensions, one result

Each is scored on its own, so the result says which part moved, not just how far the whole did.

What this measures, and what it does not

This is a screening questionnaire about attention, activity and organisation. It is not a diagnostic instrument, it cannot tell you whether you have ADHD, and a high score here is not a diagnosis. Only a qualified clinician, working from your history as well as your present, can make that assessment.

What it can do is give you a structured description of five dimensions that frequently travel together, and — crucially — separate them. Attention, restlessness, impulsivity and organisation are distinct, they do not always move together, and a profile that is high on two and low on two is far more informative than a single number.

The fifth scale, daily interference, is deliberately included and deliberately weighted in the reading. The difference between a trait and a difficulty is almost never the intensity of the trait. It is whether it is costing you something.

Why adults are missed

Worth knowing, because it explains a common experience.

The picture most people carry of attention difficulty comes from children, usually boys, and usually the visibly hyperactive ones. In adults the same underlying pattern frequently presents as something else entirely: an internal restlessness rather than a physical one, a lifetime of underperforming relative to apparent ability, elaborate compensating systems, exhaustion from the effort of holding it together, and a long history of being described as bright but disorganised.

Two consequences follow. Adults who have functioned — got the degree, held the job — are frequently told they cannot have a difficulty because they have managed, which confuses the cost of managing with the absence of a problem. And the ability to focus intensely on something genuinely engaging is often treated as disproving the whole thing, when variable attention rather than absent attention is what the pattern actually describes.

About the items

The five facets follow the dimensions the validated adult screening instruments measure. The statements are written for this test rather than reproduced from a copyrighted scale, which means this questionnaire is not equivalent to a clinical screen and should not be reported as one.

The free run takes the first five statements of each facet, which gives you a real reading on all five rather than a precise reading on two.

If your scores are high

Two things, plainly.

Take the result to a doctor rather than taking it as an answer. What a clinician needs — a developmental history, an account of how this shows up across different settings, a look at what else could explain it — is exactly what a questionnaire cannot provide.

And do not use this as a reason to wait. Attention difficulties in adults are associated with real costs that accumulate over decades, and they respond well to assessment, support and, where appropriate, treatment. If what you have read here describes something that has been shaping your life, that is a reason to ask somebody qualified rather than to keep managing it alone.

If you are in crisis, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis line rather than a website.

Test guidelines

  • Answer each statement based on your personal opinion.
  • You cannot skip questions, but you can return to them later.
  • Answer as you actually are, not as you would like to be — the result is only as honest as the answers.

This assessment is a self-reflection tool. It does not provide a medical or psychological diagnosis, and no result here substitutes for advice from a qualified professional.
